  1. Do you have any tips for someone wanting to start refinishing pieces for themselves??

    1. Sure. Always start out with a practice piece... something that you don't love or an old piece that has been sitting around in your basement. That way if you don't like it, you haven't painted on an expensive antique. When I first started out I played around a lot with colors, textures, waxes, etc. to find a style that I liked. Everyone has different taste so it takes some trial and error to find what you love. I don't like pieces with a high gloss look {just a personal preference} so I do not typically use poly, but rather wax. When you are ready to try a real piece, pick a piece that you love with great character and style {that doesn't mean it has to be expensive. You can find great vintage pieces off Craig's List or flea markets.} Don't be too critical of yourself because if you don't like it, you can always repaint it. Try to have fun with it; it shouldn't be stressful, it should be a chance to let your creativity flow! And a good brush is a must. It's worth it to pay a bit more for a good paint brush! I hope that helps. Feel free to ask questions anytime!
